Congratulations to Dr. Chhay Kongkea & Mr. Huon Thavrak

The Cambodian Student Association (CNU-CSA) at Chonnam National University is very happy and congratulates Dr. Chhay Kongkea (alumnus of CNU-CSA) for his position as vice dean of Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) in Cambodia, and Mr. Huon Thavrak (vice president of CNU-CSA) for his position as vice dean of Graduate School of RUA in Cambodia. Dr. Chhay Kongkea and Mr. Huon Thavrak have been appointed since December 6th, 2007 by H.E. Dr. Chan Sarun (Minister of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries) represents the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Mr. Kong Chakrya is not a member of CNU-CSA

According to his requests, Mr. Kong Chakrya is not a member of CNU-CSA now. Mr. Kong Chakrya is studying Bachelor degree (1st year) in Department of English Language and Literature, Chonnam National University now. CNU-CSA is so sad that he decised to leave the association because CNU-CSA is a group of Cambodia students who study at Chonnam National University in Gwangju city, South Korea.

There are four Cambodian students at CNU attended Mr. Sung-Mo Kim's son wedding ceremony on November 3, 2007 in Seoul. They are Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, Mr. Kong Chakrya, Ms. Taing Sreiny, and Ms. Chhay Sreyleak.

2007 International Symposium on Plant Stress and Metabolism

Mr. Huon Thavrak and Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath are going to attend the 2007 International Symposium on Plant Stress and Metabolism & Annual Meeting of the KSABC (Korean Society for Applied Biological Chemistry) to be held in Gyeongju, South Korea from 11th to 13th of October, 2007. Their lab-mate and them will bring three posters to participate in the symposium too.

On the other hand, Mr. Hem Lina and Ms. Taing Sreiny are also going to attend the symposium with their two posters.

Visiting Asian culture complex information center

The foreigner students at Chonnam National University visited Asian culture complex information center in Gwangju city on September 22, 2007. We saw drawing, Korean folk performance, Korean Magic show, Korean breakdance show; played Korean folk games; and wore Korean traditonal dresses. The foreigner students are Bangladeshes, Chinese, Indian, Uzbeck, Vietnamese, and Cambodian students such as Mr. Huon Thavrak, Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, Mr. Sar Kinal, Mr. Kong Chakrya, Mr. Nop Sophea Donang, Ms. Taing Sreiny, and Ms. Chhay Sreyleak.

CNU Festival 2007

Chonnam National University celebrated the University Festival on September 19-21, 2007. In the festival, the foreigner students also joined and showed their culture on September 20, such as Bangladesh culture, Cambodian culture, Chinaese culture, Indian culture, and Vietnamese culture. For Cambodian culture, the Cambodian students danced the Cambodian folk dances (Ramvang, Saravan, Madison) and showed Cambodian traditional clothes (Sampot Aov Hol Phamuong, Krama Suth, and Khoal Cheav).

Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2007



Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2007 was organized by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province in Gyeongju, South Korea on September 7-26, 2007. This ceremony has Cambodian folk performance too. On September 9th, H.E Thong Khon, Minister of Ministry of Tourism and representative of the Cambodian Government, gave a speech to open "Cambodia Cultural Day". There are many people participated and watched the Cambodian folk performance at that day including Cambodian students at Chonnam National University such as Mr. Huon Thavrak, Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, Mr. Sar Kinal, and Mr. Nop Sophea Donang.

Dr. Mao Sopheareth and Miss Ly Dalin Bye-Bye South Korea

Dr. Mao Sopheareth and Miss Ly Dalin turn back to Cambodia on August 25, 2007 after graduation ceremony one day. They left Gwangju city to Incheon International Airport by bus at 11:30 am, and left South Korea to Cambodia from Incheon International Airport by airplane at 7:30 pm.

Graduation Day on August 24, 2007

Chonnam National University celebrated the graduation ceremony on August 24, 2007. There are five Cambodian students graduated in that time but only three students joined this ceremony are Dr. Mao Sopheareth, Miss Ly Dalin, and Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath. Five Cambodian students, who graduated on 24 August 2007, are

1. Dr. Mao Sopheareth got Doctoral degree in Agricultural Chemistry.

2. Miss Ly Dalin got Master degree in Biotechnology.

3. Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath got Master degree in Biotechnology.

4. Miss Chhay Sreymom got Master degree in International Trade.

5. Mr. Chea Sopheak Makara got Master degree in Biotechnology.

There are many people joined a farewell party for Dr. Mao Sopheareth and Miss Ly Dalin on August 21, 2007 such as professor Dr. Joon-keun Park, Mr. Sung-Mo Kim and his son, Mr. Suck-bong Kim, Mr. Sun Woo Choi, Mr. Chae-Ok Kim, Korean people, Chinese students, Vietnamese students, and Cambodian students at CNU. Dr. Mao Sopheareth and Miss Ly Dalin are going back to Cambodia on August 25, 2007 after their gratuation.This party sponsored by professor Dr. Joon-keun Park and Mr. Sung-Mo Kim.

The 2nd election of the CNU-CSA's president and vice-president



The 2nd election for the president and vice-president of CNU-CSA hold on August 20th 2007 at a Korean restaurant (오뚜기식당). Mr. Khay Sathya has been elected as the president of CNU-CSA and Mr. Huon Thavrak has been elected as the vice-president of CNU-CSA by Cambodian students at Chonnam National University.

On the other hand, Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath has also selected as the treasurer of CNU-CSA by the president at that day too.

Three Cambodian students went back to Cambodia

Dr. Mao Sopheareth, Mr. Chea Sopheak Makara, and Miss Chhay Sreymom went back to Cambodia on July 18, 2007 because they finished study at Chonnam National University (CNU). But Dr. Mao Sopheareth will come back to CNU on July 28, 2007 in order to attend the graduation ceremony on August 24, 2007.

First day named Congratulation party, July 7, all students enjoyed with the foods at a buffet restaurant. Second day named Farewell party, July 8, all students enjoyed with ice cream together at a ice cream restaurant.

Presentation to defense thesis

There are three Cambodian students are going to present their Master thesis in the major of Biotechnology on June 12, 2007 from 4:00pm at Room 101, Building 5, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University (CNU). These students are
- Mr. Chea Sopheak Makara, his Master thesis entitled: "Stress responses of transgenic rice overexpressing oxo-phytodienoic acid reductase gene"
- Miss Ly Dalin, her Master thesis entitled: "Comparisons of antioxidant activities and contents of secondary metabolites between environmental-friendly and conventionally cultivated crops"
- Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, his Master thesis entitled: "Stress responses of transgenic rice overexpressing allene oxide cyclase gene"

On the other hand, Mr. Mao Sopheareth has presented his Ph.D thesis in the major of Agricultural Chemistry entitled: "Biocontrol of Late Blifht (Phytophthora capsici) in pepper by Burkholderia sp. MPC-7" at 3:00pm - 3:30pm on May 17, 2007 at Room 419, Building 4, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, CNU. Miss Chhay Sreymom has also presented her Master thesis in the major of International Trade entitled: "The Marketing Policy of Tourism in Cambodia" on May 11, 2007 at Room 303, Building 1, College of Business Administration, CNU.

14th CNU Dormitory Festival 2007

Chonnam National University has celebrated 14th Dormitory Festival On May 22nd, 2007. In this festival, the foreigner students from four countries also joined to cook their national foods including Bangladeshi students, Cambodian students, Chinese students, and Uzbek students. Cambodian students at CNU made Cambodian foods such as PRAHOK K'TISS, Chha Khjey Sach-Mean (Chicken Stir Fry with Ginger), Jam Sach-Chrouk (Vegetable-Pork in Lemon Sauce), and Bang-Eam Chahuoy (Dessert: Coconut-Algae Gel).

Congratulations to H.E. Dr. Chan Sarun

Royal University of Agriculture in Cambodia and Cambodian Student Association at Chonnam National University congratulate H.E. H.E. Dr. Chan Sarun, Minister of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries in Cambodia, has received Honorary Ph.D in Agriculture from Chonnam National University given by President of CNU, Professor Dr. Kang Jung-chaee, on April 26, 2007 at CNU. We, Cambodian students at CNU, are very happy and say congratulate to H.E. Dr. Chan Sarun for his Honorary Ph.D award.

On the other hand, during stay in South Korea from April 25-27, 2007, H.E Dr. Chan Sarun visited some places such as Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Institute, Environment-friendly Cultivating Farm (Tomato, Pumpkin and Pear), Environment-friendly Animal Farm (Korean cattle), Gwangju National Museum, Microbial Fertilizer Formulation Factory at Jang-sung county, and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

President of CNU has received a medal


CNU President Dr. Kang Jung-chaee has received a medal from the Royal Government of Cambodia on April 26, 2007 at Chonnam National University (CNU). H.E. Dr. Chan Sarun, Minister of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, represented the Royal Government of Cambodia gave the medal to him. We, Cambodian students at CNU, are very happy and say congratulate him for this medal award.

Khmer New Year Party 2007 in South Korea

There are many Cambodian people joined the Khmer New Year Party at Cambodian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea on April 14th 2007. Cambodian students at Chonnam National University also joined that party too such as Mr. Mao Spheareth, Mr. Huon Thavrak, Mr. Chea Sopheak Makara, Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, and Miss Taing Sreiny. All people were very happy and enjoyed with Cambodian dancing styles such as Ramvong, Saravan, Lamleo, Talong, Madison,... until mid-night at that day.



On the other hand, some Cambodian students at Chonnam National University celebrated Khmer New Year party too. Miss Chhay Sreymom, Miss Ly Dalin, Miss Chhay Sreyleak, Mr. Hem Lina, Mr. Ty Sansouci, Mr. Kong Chakrya, and Mr. Nop Sophea Donang enjoyed with a Khmer Game named 3 dok 1.

The additional scholarship from "Open Sesame" Foundation

There are ten Cambodian students, two Vietnamese students, one Indonesian student, and one Mongolian student have been received the additional scholarship from Dr. Kyung-Ja Hong, chairperson of "Open Sesame" Foundation, at Dean office of college of Agriculture and Life Sciences on Friday 6th April 2007. The ten Cambodian students are Mr. Mao Sopheareth, Mr. Huon Thavrak, Mr. Khay Sathya, Mr. Chea Sopheak Makara, Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath, Miss Chhay Sreymom, Miss Ly Dalin, Miss Chhay Sreyleak, Mr. Hem Lina, and Miss Taing Sreiny. President of CNU-CSA introduced Korean investors

On Saturday 31st March 2007, President of CNU-CSA, Mr. Mao Sopheareth, introduced Korean investors to H.E ambassador at Cambodian embassy in Seoul in order to survey the ability of their investment into Cambodia. The delegation was welcomed deeply from H.E ambassador. The interesting topic was strongly on Agro-Industrial plants. H.E ambassador also gave advice in other fields of investment history too.

Mr. Huon Thavrak and Dr. Oksoo Han are going to visit Cambodia

Mr. Huon Thavrak and his professor, Dr. Oksoo Han, are going to visit Cambodia on February 3-10, 2007. At the Royal University of Agriculture on Februry 5, 2007 in Cambodia, Mr. Huon Thavrak will give a presentation about "Production of Transgenic Rice Plant Overexpressing Allene Oxide Synthase-Lipoxygenase Fusion Gene" and his professor will recruit students to study Master degree in Biotechnology at Chonnam National University, South Korea.

Yoeun Sereyvath - Appendectomy

Mr. Yoeun Sereyvath has been opperated his appendix at Hyundae Hospital on January 4, 2007. He is better now but he still stay at Hyundae Hospital Room 710 for about one week. He would like to say thank you to Professor Dr. Oksoo Han, Professor Dr. Joon-keun Park, Doctor at Hyundae Hospital, Shinan Church's members, his Biochemistry Lab's members, and Cambodian students at CNU for their sponsor and take care of him during his appendectomy and staying at hospital.
